Pen and Paper App Reviews

Neat app

This is a neat app. You can do so much with it. With the large expansion capability you can write hidden messages. I wrote a whole message inside one square on the graph paper. It does all it claims. The seller responded quickly to a question I had. Nice to have such good support!

left-handers?

Great app----except please allow for notes to switch sides for page notes. When its updated for us left-handers, this will be a 5 star app.

Good, but more colors

I want a better variety of colors! Thats literally it! Just make like a more colors option, plz! But other than that, its a great app

Wow!

I just happened upon this while browsing through todays new apps, which I almost never do! What a pleasant surprise! This is probably the most-featured, yet easy-to-use notebook, notebook app yet! Congratulations on a great app.

Nicely Done

Surprisingly, Im impressed. I never thought Id find another great pen notebook aside from Penultimate (all the others are so laggy). I decided to give this one a try anyway. The smoothness in writing just blew me away. Using a stylus feels accurate and really smooth with this app, also. The zoom feature was what I missed with other like apps. The paper size options here is brilliant, add text... Pen and Paper just works, you wont be sorry. The only thing Id like to see is the option to export individual pages or the entire notebook, right now it seems to be the whole notebook. Excellent work to the developer(s). I hope this app stays light weight and smooth. Its the best and deserved a review.

Useful but...

App is easy to use. Pen strokes are responsive. It says it is integrated with dropbox, but only the PDF upload works. As of today I tried uploading a native file from the app, which it did, but dropbox will not open the file. To use the file you need to reels load it to the app. The zoom feature is nice. One thing it is lacking is to organize files. This could be done using dropbox, but as explained it is not fully integrated. Hopefully they will fix this soon.

Very Impressive!

I have most of the apps that lend themselves to use with a stylus. I like taking meeting notes "by hand". Yes, Penultimate has always had the nicest ink but no zooming and no landscape make it annoying to me. This app is incredibly simple to use, the writing is very nice. Two finger panning works well while zoomed in enough to write "small". That makes an equally acceptable alternative to an auto-scroll window used as a magnified text input area (Notes Plus, Note Taker, et al). Good for DropBox integration, good that is will email notes.

Crashes

Try to type a text box with an attached external keyboard, get one letter into it, and app shuts down. How about a refund?

One of the worst yet

Dont waste your money! No palm support, wrist support! Difficult to get the text/object box to work to do anything except erase. Save your money, I wish I had. Dont be confused by the fountainpen logo. Theres nothing about this that is remotely like using a pen....refunds should be awarded for just trying this. Dfinitely won the award for the app blouwn off my system the fastet. E

Potential once PDF support added

Best of both NoteTaker HD and Notes Plus. Like NoteTaker HD, it allows you to erase only handwriting and preserve typed text. Like Notes Plus, it allows for fast switching between Text and Handwriting with a double Tap. Also allows to grab and move rectangular blocks, like Notes Plus. Very smooth and responsive handwriting style. What Im missing: Import PDFs Integrate w/ Evernote Zoom box/Autoscroll Other than that, I think itll be my go-to app from here on out.

good app

but still needs a lot of work.

Wheres the wrist protection?

Im assuming the new wrist protection is automatic but the pages keeps turning on me and enlarging and the book keeps jumping all over the place. How is this wrist protection? Is there a switch Im not turning on? Plus the pen lines are choppy. I love this app. Please fix! Look at the top note apps and how they do wrist protection.

Great Handwriting App !

I cannot understand why people have to bash a great app like this. This is a neat and handy handwriting, diagraming, etc application. Yes there are other apps out there with similar features. I have them and use them occasionally. Each have their differences. This is a great app for handwriting, typing, color fills and opacity selection, fonts, pen and border width options. The ability to create schematics and layouts with creativity. The developer of this app has listened to negative comments and has intrepid them as constructive criticism, although I personally think that the negativity is totally uncalled for. (s)He is obviously a responsible developer who obviously cares, listens and ACTS to improve their work. If only there were more responsible app developers who would do the same. I totally recommend this app to anyone with creativity skills. You will not be disappointed and I am CERTAIN that this app will get ever better as it moves along. A big THANK YOU to the developer.

Great Sketchnoting App for the IPAD...

Wonderful app for sketchnoting. Dropbox support, a selection tool that lets you select ANYTHING and resize, move, cut and paste as well as intuitive controls for pen size and color adjustment is wonderful. This app also has one of the smoothest handwriting gesturing, much like penultimate however beats it with the multitude of other features including almost an incredible pinch and zoom as well as the ability to import pics into your sketchnotes. I feel as though some the low ratings by a few others are not warranted. This is a great app and with the responsiveness I have seen thus far from the developers, I am sure will be one the best in this field. Having said that, on my wishlist for this app will be: 1. improvements in the use of the palm with this app, 2. the ability to create a pens w predefined colors and sizes and 3. the ability to have gesture enabled zoom modes for a) Fit page to window and b) last zoom mode. This is a feature I really like in the brushes app. To wrap up...my recommendation: this is a keeper.

Grainy ink rendering, crashy

Ive used better pen and paper apps, by far. (Penultimate comes to mind.) Ink rendering is jagged and pixelated. The default pen sizes are way too small for an iPad. Exiting the Help menu crashes the program. The ink does keep up with my stylus fairly well, but it cant save it from painfully bad text rendering and, as others have noted, terrible palm detection.

Awesome!!!!

I love this app. better than penultimate ( which I bought too)

Very Nice

Very nice note taking app. One of the simplest and best I have seen. Nice interface, very sleek, and thank you so much for having adequate zooming capabilities. I like that you can export notes as PDFs but what about importing PDFs and PDF pages. Additional paper types would also increase the apps competitive abilities. I personally would love staff paper, because no other app allows me to write music (Penultimate does but it is much too difficult to use). More shapes and selection abilities. Thanks for a great app, I hope for even better features in the future.

A good note taking app but...

The biggest failure for me is the landscape view. It is uncomfortable to left the left side page blank and you have nothing to do with it. It is a waste of screen assets and also feel silly.

Neat app for note-taking, but...

Please ADD wrist protection feature!! I would give this app 5 stars!!!

Not so great, but not so bad

I wrote a rather poor review of this app a while ago, but after a few updates its much better. Unfortunately I still dont think it has much of a place on the iPad—Penultimate has better handwriting; Upad and Notes Plus provide significantly more features. Where this app could distinguish itself is on the iPhone, where there is bafflingly little in the way of serious note taking apps. But its missing the crucial feature of (some form of) automatic scrolling, without which the iPhones small screen makes handwriting so difficult as to be a useless thing to try. The latest update appears to have added automatic scrolling to the iPad app but not to its iPhone counterpart. Seems like an odd prioritization given that the iPad hardly needs it.
