Pen and Paper App Reviews

Great app, but needs better sharing options

Better than penultimate if u ask me. But it needs better sharing options like printing/emailing multiple pages (not the whole book or just one page).

Pen and Paper beats notebooks!,

This app is amazing and for the price its a bargain. The only thing the app is missing is the ability to add custom backgrounds in order to have customized notebooks. If you are curious about this app at all, just get it. Its a great note taking app for anyone trying to ditch paper for digital ink. You wont be disappointed. -policarpo

Great app!

This is a GREAT app! You can type draw write add pics and even have multiple many many page notebooks. You can also do a lot more like use graph paper share on dropvox email etc. I love it. Definitely worth 1.99$ !!!

Great app

Confusing sometimes though.

Add hexagonal background please

I really like this app but something that would make it even better is hexagonal background. I need for my purposes and cant seem to find an app that supports it. Please and thanks

Great App, Needs a UI Tweak

This app is really great. Just the right amount of flexibility, not too complex, intuitive, and good inking. I think a few UI tweaks would make a big difference. 1. The floating toolbar seems always in the way. Why not use the empty space in the middle of title bar for the tools? Or at the bottom? As it is, I have to move the canvas to access portions under the toolbar, and this is a pain. (I do prefer the persistent toolbar, rather than a "touch and hold" gesture to access the toolbar as used elsewhere; thanks!). 2. Allow landscape as well as portrait modes for the canvas: when I turn the iPad, I would like the paper to turn as well. 3. Allow the canvas to snap to full size: that is, to fill the display. The scrolling and zooming is great, but usually, I want to see and use the whole page without diddling to get the maximum canvas size. Thanks so much for a great app!

Meh

I got this app hoping for something similar to word or indesign or a melange of the two; I was very disappointed. I found this app very difficult to use. I could not un-zoom at times. The drawing element was not bad but the rest seemed never to work for me. I wish I had saved my money :( the app does not serve my needs at all.

This is the one

This app has got the note pad idea figured out. The re-size tool is a great feature. You can write big, draw a re-size box around it, make it smaller without losing clarity, and put it anywhere you want it. FAST. Great for handwriting lists. Zoom in and out easily. I have tried dozens of note pad apps and I think this one has the best combination of features. Could use more paper designs, a preset highlighter (though you can define a highlighter) and the ability to cut and paste to different pages and books. Has a few bugs in the app particularly in the "books" screen. A few times I have had to close the app and restart it to get my list of books back up. I have never lost any work though. I am still willing to give it 5 stars. Fix the bugs, add some of the features I suggested and i would give it SIX stars if I could.

Pen and paper

This hangs up and is clumsy on copy/paste words. Proved to be useless for me!

Great notebook app!

First of all, this is one of the only notebook apps that is universal and has easy sync between your iDevices. Second, may not be as feature-rich as some of the others out there, but has all the features I need: photos, text + handwriting, landscape, etc. Lastly, I contacted the developer about a small bug, and got and answer in under an hour as well as an update pushed out to Apple ASAP.

No email as JPEG feature?

Good app, but it should have a Save as Image or Email as JPEG or any image format.

Cool App

This app actually is the only one I have found that has an iPhone version AND syncs thru iCloud. I love these features!! The one and only problem I have (that would make it a five star app) is that when writing on the iPad there is no wrist protection. It badly needs wrist protection and will then get 5 stars!!

Very nice

Start up quickly, Universal, iCloud sync, Nice handwriting.

This is the killer app for tablets

Handwritten, drawn, and typed notes with symbols together on a page. Movable, scalable and zoomable. You can fit an enormous amount on a page and have multiple pages. Its really a layered vector based editor, but so easy you might never realize it. Also imports pictures. You could fit a mind map style set of notes on a single page, and have multiple pages. Its like having a huge editable whiteboard in your hand, and you can export and share it, or print it. You could also import a document image, hand-sign and send as PDF. At the same time, you could design vectored logos or create art that looks hand drawn or almost painted because you can layer with opacity. This app should be hugely popular, ranging from just-start-marking to much more, without having to mess with many options. This is what I wanted an iPad for, and it works on iPhone.

Latest version is excellent, now if....

I have always liked Pen and Paper, but the most recent upgrade is a big step forward. I will now be deleting the other apps that I had previously been tracking to see who got better fastest. Now just a few more features that I will beg for: 1) Can we run the eraser on photos rather than just white-ing them out with the pen set to background color? 2) Can we crop photos? 3) Can we insert photos straight from camera (great for taking notes from a white board presentation. 4) This is the feature that I would pay $$$ for: setup a text typing entry that when you fill up a page it automatically wraps to the next page. This would allow us to type continuous notes. Even better if you allow customizing the margins on the text block in order to leave wide margins for drawn notes! 5) Point editing feature for lines and shapes to create splines and various irregular polygons. 6) Export a vector version into an MS Office format like word or PowerPoint (or any of the various lookalikes now avail) Do these things and half the college kids in the country will be buying pen and paper to take notes in class.

Perfect.

This app has everything I ever wanted: zoom, save PDFs to page backgrounds, annotate PDFs, selection tool, a "follow" mode where the brush size changes depending on the zoom, NOT BUGGY, an amazing range of fonts for text, export to Dropbox, cloud storage, easy to use, lots of colors and brush sizes... The list goes on and on. This app is so much cheaper and better than every single note app on the app store. It is what Penultimate should have been. Thank you.

FEATURE REQUEST:

Make this app work in landscape mode on iPhone and it will be PERFECT!

Not shabby

If I could give it 4.5 I would. Not exactly sure why I wouldnt give it 5 starts. It is a very helpful app. Sometimes I think it may be a bit klunky...but I feel these small situations I run into are apple issues and not the app. When making A title for the document to save it under (a useful feature) it puts underscores instead of spaces. Again something most likely apple. For what you pay it is packed full. I would love an app that would recognize and a form and default to a fill in. I use this mostly for getting PDFs and then filling them in. It is very useful in that sense. Seriously you get. Great amount for the small fee you pay. Get it and get the full version.

Very good. Missing just small point

Ok this is a great app. I was lookin for something like noteshelf and goodnotes for the iPhone and ended up getting this. Although writing is not as fluid and precise as noteshelf/goodnotes it gets the job done especially on the phone. I am able to import PDFs from drop box no problem and export to photo album (not many apps can do this). BUT PLEASE upgrade so it can be used in landscape on the iPhone. It is very hard to write on the iPhone in portrait. Thanks! (Ps it comes with manuscript paper for the musicians out there, thats what I use a lot and helpful to know before purchase)

PLEASE FIX THE ZOOM-OUT!!!

I use this app EVERYDAY for work. This is a GREAT app... BUT when your typing in a text box, the more you type the more it zooms out. This makes it very hard to edit when you cant read the text, and I have very good vision. Landscape would also be an awesome addition. I bought a stylus to use with this app but its too hard to write in portrait so I just click on the keyboard. Also, there needs to be a blind to pull up from the bottom so you dont select the buttons when your hands resting on the phone. Everything else seems to work great, with a couple little buggy exceptions like when I open the app from the lock screen the screen goes back to black then I click the home button again and the screen comes back and the app closes and I have to re open it again. Not a huge problem though, it only happens occasionally and probably has to do with iPhone OS. And sometimes when opening the app it will goto a new untitled book and when you click back to books it disappears. I have had this app for a few months now and its awesome to have ALL your notes in one app. No need to carry a pad of paper and a pen anymore! Thanks for working hard to make this app so great, its came a long way!
